Matters of the Heart: Night Out for Girlfriends

Matters of the Heart
Prevea cardiologist Dr. Supreeti Behuria

Who doesn’t love the way they feel after an incredible Yoga class? The decadent luxury of sipping wine and nibbling on chocolate? Gather on Broadway is rolling out a new series that combines the simple pleasures of life – like a glass of wine with your girlfriends – with a more serious subject, heart health. Chef Jyll and Prevea Health will host Matters of the Heart, a night out for girlfriends focused on a healthy you!

Forget about those boring lectures in health class; this series puts you in the middle of the action. Matters of the Heart combines yoga with smoothies and wine with chocolate. While stretching, tasting, sipping, and laughing, you’ll also learn how to love your heart.

Yoga and Smoothie Mixology

On Tuesday, April 23, we will connect mind and body at a beginner yoga class. Afterwards, we’ll sample incredible, nutrient-dense smoothies made by Deb Guenterberg, registered dietitian nutritionist at Prevea Health. We’ll also treat ourselves to Chef Jyll’s amazing appetizers – heart-healthy, of course.

Wine, Chocolate & Your Heart

On Tuesday, May 21, we will indulge (in moderation!) on wine and chocolate, plus fabulous appetizers prepared by Food Network Star and Gather Executive Chef Jyll Everman. Prevea cardiologist Dr. Supreeti Behuria will share simple ways we can love our hearts every day.

Matters of the HeartWhy focus on heart health?

The statistics are alarming! Heart disease is:

  • The leading cause of death for women in the U.S.
  • A killer that strikes more women than men
  • More deadly than all forms of cancer combined
  • The cause of 1 out of every 3 deaths. That’s about 1 death each minute.

But enough with the bad news! Here’s the good news: 80% of cardiac deaths are preventable. Women with a family history of heart disease are at a higher risk for the disease themselves, but they can do plenty to dramatically reduce their risk. Women can learn how to prevent cardiovascular disease by making lifestyle changes.

  • Proper nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels
